What Are the Types of Fuel Pumps Used in Fuel Dispensers?

Author:Wdmachine Date:2025-09-20

There are primarily two types of pumps used in dispensers: suction pumps and submersible turbine pumps. Suction pumps are located inside the dispenser cabinet and use vacuum pressure to pull fuel from the tank. They are typically more cost-effective for small stations and simpler to maintain, though their performance is limited by distance and suction height.

Submersible turbine pumps, on the other hand, are installed directly inside the underground fuel tank. These pumps use an electric motor to push fuel to the dispenser under pressure, which allows for faster and more consistent fueling. They are ideal for large stations with multiple dispensers and high daily throughput.

The choice between the two types depends on station design, installation costs, and expected fuel volume. Many modern gas stations prefer submersible systems for their reliability and scalability, though suction pumps remain in use for smaller or rural locations.
